Chinchillas as Pets
These animals are great pets. They are quick, perky and can be a bit high strung. They can live up to age 20 if cared for properly.
Food and Diet
Chinchillas love to eat junk food like pizza crusts, cheetos, raisins. However, they need a balanced diet. A Mix of chinchilla chow along with spinach and alfafa will be fine.
Cage and Habitat
Cages for your fluffy friend should be solid. Water should be fresh daily and their cages need to be cleaned daily. Also, make sure you give them lots to chew on. They love it. Also, provide them with cornstarch. They love a dustbath.

Chinchilla’s can get pneumonia, ringworm and have teeth issues. They also hate extreme heat. Make sure you keep them well ventilated and away from high humidity.

Chinchillas come in a variety of colors. Common colors are silver, white, gray, beige and black.

Pet stores are the WORST place to get a Chinchilla. Go to a reputable breeder from The Chinchilla Club.
Chinchillas love their toys like this stand. But they love cardboard to hide in and chew down. Be careful of small and plastic toys that they can potentially choke on.
A chinchilla should be allowed to eat after midnight. You can’t give a chincilla dried fruits and veggies. Those are two debunked myths.
